What are Chakras? Chakras are the energy centers of the body. They are located in the astral body, along the spine, starting at its base and running upwards to the crown of the head. The astral body is the energy body residing inside our physical body. Each physical body part has a corresponding astral body part. The astral body cannot be seen or touched. This is also a reason why we cannot see the chakras. The chakras radiate a specific colour and energy. Each one coincides with a gland in the physical body. Since each chakra relates to specific spiritual, emotional, psychological, and physical aspects of our being, it is believed that their blockage or malfunction can lead to physical, psychological, and emotional disorders. The conscious awareness and balancing of these energy centers, on the other hand, is believed to lead to well-being and good health. Our body has 114 chakras yet only 7 Chakras of the body that are advancing alongside the spine, are considered as the foundational chakras. The 7 Chakras symbolize energy centres and correspond to a bundle of nerves, major organs, and areas of our spiritual body that impact our physical and emotional well-being. 1. Muladhara – Root Chakra 2. Svadhisthana – Sacral Chakra 3. Manipura – Solar Plexus Chakra 4. Anahata – Heart Chakra 5. Vishuddha – Throat Chakra 6. Ajna – Third eye Chakra 7. Sahasrara – Crown Chakra Working with the chakras is a great way to move your yoga practice beyond strength and flexibility and make it therapeutic for your life off the mat. It is also an area where many might feel intimidated or sceptical. But by being open to the possibility, I discovered that you don’t need to focus on them so literally as energy centers displaced throughout the spinal column. Instead I dipped my toes into the chakras, and recommend you do to, by aiming to do some visualization and work with your imagination. In this Workshop I offer up a yin yoga pose for each chakra, and some points to turn your direction to while you hold each pose. A yin yoga practice can help greatly to go deep into the areas of stuck energy, thoughts, feelings, and blockages. You are encouraged to trust any feelings that come though during your practice, your emotional and spiritual bodies will communicate with you through things that you feel, sense and see. Trusting these messages in a yoga workshop like this one will make it easier to trust your intuitive niggles in other areas of your life.
